International Primary Curriculum-Early years

The International Primary Curriculum Early Years Program is designed for children from 3 to 5 years old, outside of their home countries. The fundamental purpose of the program is to provide quality learning experiences. Our philosophy is to use an integrated approach to help children learn and develop cognitively, socially, emotionally, and physically. Each unit covered addresses four different strands from which learning goals are specified. These strands are:
-
Independence & Interdependence
-
Communicating
-
Exploring
-
Healthy Living
The curriculum is developmentally appropriate for young children. It is planned to be suitable for the age span of the children within the school and is implemented with attention to the different needs, interests and developmental levels of those individual children. Each child is a unique person with an individual personality, learning style, and family background. Both the curriculum and educational interactions with children are responsive to individual differences.
Teachers increase the difficulty and complexity of activities as children build confidence, master skills, and develop understanding. They provide a variety of activities and materials that are tangible, real and relevant to the lives of young children.

Reports
GIKA staff regularly shares information with parents regarding their child’s development. Children are formally assessed twice a year. Assessments are based on the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile which shares similar learning goals with the four strands of the IPC. Parents will be informed of the learning objectives at the beginning of the year.
At GIKA we strongly believe that teachers and parents are partners in education.
Time for parent-teacher conferences is made available twice a year; once after mid-year reports and once after final reports. Conferences provide an opportunity for discussion regarding children in a private and professional setting. Please make sure that there is someone to take care of your child and siblings during that time as they can’t attend the conference.
